Don’t you get excited to be home when your pets come welcoming you with their tails wagging and jumping on you? Does it feel good to cuddle with your dog or touch the fur of your cat? There are many reasons why people love to have pets, and instances that help us make feel good even after a long day at work or school. They are cute, loving creatures that we need to take care of and love like a real part of our family.
While feeding and bathing them are a very common and necessary tasks to do, there’s also one other thing that must be included on the list, and that is giving them a free massage and spoil them for 5 minutes or more.
To humans, massage is a way to soothe and relax the body. It alleviates pain, improve muscles, and generally promote health goodness. The same works in animals, which is why pet owners are encouraged to massage them too.
I’ve learned to massage my dogs when I found out the benefits that I’ve read from a magazine some months ago. We have 4 dogs and 2 cats. I usually don’t cuddle my cats as much as I do with our dogs. But from time to time I try to massage them.
There are several powerful benefits of animal massage. I don’t think I need to explain further or in a more sophisticated details. So, let me summarize them below:
1. Relieve pain and stiffness.
Yes, animals can get pain sometimes. They may not whine much and you won’t have a clue. But their muscles and nerves also get sore from running or sleeping for too many hours. If you massage them, it helps reduce pain and eventually get rid of the soreness they’re feeling.
2. Improve blood circulation.
Like humans, the blood circulation of dogs and other animals must be normalized. They can also suffer from blood clotting or heart attack if there’s thickening of their blood.
3. Enhance the digestive system.
Do you wonder why animals, especially dogs, don’t have the appetite to eat some times, although they’re not really sick? It’s because of poor digestion. This is why you need to massage them regularly to improve their digestive system.
4. Soothes arthritis symptoms and injuries.
In case of wounds and arthritis, animals feel more pain than normal. You have to massage the affected areas to be able to lessen pain.
5. Relax them.
Whether your pets are suffering from an injury, ailment, or no illness at all, massaging them is a nice way to make them feel good. It’s also a great opportunity to spend time with them and be closer.
Many experts, not just veterinarian, but also nutritionists and doctors, recommend massaging animals, most particularly dogs and cats. It’s a win-win situation for both people and animals. Firstly, it provides them relaxation and calm effect, which can be very helpful in the long run. Secondly, you get to make them trust you more if you do this. In addition, it doesn’t cost a lot of your time, 3 to 10 minutes are not something you would complain about, won’t you?
