8 Foods that Relieve Pain and Inflammation. No.6 is My Favorite

From work to exercise, current illness to stress, pain is always the result. The body reacts to every moment that becomes too much, and eventually lead to inflammation and ache. In most occasions, people can deal with pain. It can go away within a few hours.

Sometimes, you just have to sleep overnight and you’ll be fine. But what if it takes more than that? What do you usually do to relieve pain?

The most common answer against pain is over-the-counter pills. A tablet or two can do the work. I don’t totally disagree with this, but there’s a better alternative without side effects at all. That is to consume certain foods with properties that relieve pain. Without further ado, here’s the list of pain-relieving foods.

GingerImage source: coolcucumbers

#1 – Ginger

This is mostly considered as a condiment and a spice to dishes. It’s known for its pungent flavor, and this is due to the anti-inflammatory compounds fond in it. They can chemically relieve pain, other than improving the immune system and preventing damages caused by free radicals and cancer-causing agents. It’s also been proven to alleviate morning and motion sickness. So my suggestion is to drink a cup of hot ginger tea when you have pain.

#2 – Garlic and Onions

Both of these contain compounds that soothe ache and pain. The good thing about them is that they are used in many types of meals. You can chop some for soups, slices to stews, sprinkle on salad, add to pizza, and sauté or grill. Chives and leeks also work just the same.

#3 – Cinnamon

Another spice that is good to absorb for pain and inflammation is cinnamon. This is widely famous for its strong, sweet smell and taste. You may sprinkle over your favorite breakfast, i.e. cereals and oatmeal, as well as dessert, such as fruit parfait and tart. It also adds flavor to your smoothie, coffee, or milk.

#4 – Turmeric

Some vegetarians love spicy, and turmeric is one of the popular and great choices. For pain and inflammation, this is also an excellent option. You should add some turmeric in your dishes to be able to prevent the development of inflammation too.

FlaxseedImage source: healthyhobbit

#5 – Flaxseed

Omega-3 fatty acids are able to soothe inflammation and alleviate pain. Good thing flaxseed has this particular compound. It’s very adaptable as you can sprinkle some in many types of recipes.

#6 – Walnuts

This type of nut is delicious, crunchy, and powerful. It has many wonderful properties that provide health benefits, including the ability to combat pain and inflammation. Like flaxseed, it contains omega-3 fatty acids, along with fiber and protein.

#7 – Pineapple

Pineapples can be sour in taste, which makes it a great fruit to eat or drink to treat cold and flu. But there’s also bromelain, an enzyme that helps cure muscle pain. I suggest you to consume more of these and add to your favorite list of fruits.

Dark, Leafy GreensImage source: ihwcenter

#8 – Dark, Leafy Greens

Yes, all dark greens and leafy vegetables are included to alleviate ache or pain. These foods have other amazing benefits, such as reducing the risk of cancers and warding off Alzheimer’s disease. It’s very important to eat at least a bowl or two of mixed leafy greens a day.

You can actually combine many of these foods for a single meal. It will be much better and faster to get rid of that pain when you absorb a high amount of essential compounds. Now that you know this simple truth, you should be keeping this list in mind.
